Lake Winnipesaukee Seaplane Tour
If you thought you knew Lake Winnipesaukee wait till you see it from this perspective. After taking off from our dock on Paugus Bay we will head north over Weirs Beach. Weirs Beach is the center of Motorcycle Week in June and home to the famous tour boat the “Mount Washington.” From there we cross the end of Meredith Bay and proceed over Bear Island. At this point you have a clear view of the White Mountains to the North and the Ossipee Mountains to the East. On clear days you can see to Mount Washington, the largest peak in the northeast.
We now make a slight turn to the east and head down the lake over many of the islands that make Winnipesaukee so interesting to explore. As we fly over the “Broads,” the widest part of the Lake you begin to see Wolfeboro, the oldest resort town in America as it is known. Castle in the Clouds can also be prominently seen at this point of the tour. As we continue the loop we make a turn south towards Alton Bay and then Gilford. Off the left side of the plane you see a clear view of Mount Major and Gunstock Ski Mountain. We will then pass over the top of “Governors Island,” one of only a handful of islands to have bridge access. As the tour draws to a close we return to Paugus Bay and land. As I always tell people, make sure to bring your camera you will definitely need it!
Squam Lake Seaplane Tour
Squam Lake is truly one of the gems of the State of New Hampshire and was majestically captured on film in the Oscar winning “On Golden Pond,” starring Henry Fonda and Katherine Hepburn.
As we depart from our dock on Paugus Bay we pass over Weirs Beach and head north. We fly over Meredith Bay and the picturesque town of Meredith itself. Meredith is home to some of the finest hotels and restaurants in the Lakes Region. As the flight continues we continue to Holderness at the southern end of Squam Lake. A small bridge in Holderness connects Little Squam with the larger lake. Following the western shore over Mooney Point, the flight approaches Rattlesnake Mountain with the Squam Mountains to the left of the plane. Continuing north we come to the Sandwich end of the lake. From here the flight makes a turn to the east towards Red Hill and then follows the eastern shore. Now heading south we start to have some views of Lake Winnipesaukee as we pass over Center Harbor. The Ossipee Mountains are also prominent at this point of the tour. Leaving Center Harbor we cross Meredith Neck as we make our way back to Paugus Bay. Upon Landing you may notice the permanent grin on your face and the people around you. This is very normal we assure you.
Sunset flights are a great time to take a tour of the Lakes Region. The scenery with that golden glow on the horizon is not to be missed and the air is particularly calm. Sunset flights are usually booked well in advance so make sure if you have a date in mind to let us know well ahead of time.
Sunset flights can be one of our set tours or can be tailored your particular interest. Whether it’s flying over Lake Winnipesaukee, Squam Lake or even Mount Chocorua we can make it happen.
Lakes Region Seaplane Services can also create a custom flight for you. Whether you want to fly from your residence or hotel we can usually make it happen. Custom flights require advance reservations to ensure availability. Prices vary.
If you are staying at one of the Inns in Meredith including Inn at Mill Falls, Chase House, Church Landing or Inn at Bay Point we can accommodate you Monday thru Friday. Meredith flights depart from the dock at Inn at Bay Point.
